In the early 1950s, the Philippine economy had finally recovered from war, and the business community was starting to look to the future with optimism.
Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco launched Grepalife Financial on March 15, 1954, fully-formed into the highly competitive field of life insurance. It soon established itself in the local industry through its innovations: underwriting of medically substandard cases; non-medical underwriting; introducing the installment and salary deduction plan for premium payments
Although these ideas are now taken for granted throughout the industry, they were daring innovations at that time, helping define the company’s identity as a company that was willing to break new ground and to try new things in bringing better life insurance coverage to the Filipino people.
Fast forward to 2011, the company has since enjoyed a reputation as one of the top life insurance companies in the country. But a company is driven not only by capital and the imperatives of profit, but by the vision of its leaders and the values that it holds.
With a vision of more Filipinos achieving financial protection and security, the Yuchengco Group of Companies sealed a joint venture agreement with Sun Life Financial. Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. had finally arrived.
Together with Sun Life Financial’s RI5E PH campaign, Sun Life Grepa has been making milestones in its joint venture journey to achieve 5 million clients in 5 years. In 2016, the joint venture reached its 1 million client milestone. In 2018, the company reached its 2-million client milestone.
