(Sun Life Grepa). This transformative collaboration aims to enhance the financial well-being of the companies’ valued customers.
The focal point of this groundbreaking partnership is the introduction of Payhinga, an inclusive bundle service designed to offer customers financial security in the face of life’s uncertainties.
Payhinga, a credit life and disability insurance product, will complement Tonik’s existing loan offerings and will be readily available to customers applying for loans.
During the ceremonial signing of the memorandum of agreement between the two companies, Tonik Country President Long Pineda expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “The partnership with Sun Life Grepa will significantly expand our suite of products, and insurance is a highly sought-after addition our customers have been requesting.”
Payhinga will give customers access to life and disability insurance with coverage up to 120% of their loan amount, along with a two-month payment holiday where customers can push back their upcoming loan installments in case of financial strain.
Richard S. Lim, President of Sun Life Grepa, echoed this sentiment, saying, “The partnership with Tonik will enable us to reach a broader client base and fulfill our mission of delivering insurance protection to the underserved.”
In today’s ever-changing landscape, access to reliable and affordable banking, financial services, and insurance is essential. Financial institutions are tirelessly innovating to provide customers with enhanced services. The introduction of products like Payhinga represents a significant step forward, offering customers a two-in-one solution that combines loan access with comprehensive coverage in a convenient and cost-effective package.
In line with its purpose of enabling healthier lives, Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. (Sun Life Grepa), a major life insurance company in the country, conducted a medical and dental mission benefitting over 300 participants from Ahon sa Hirap, Inc. (ASHI) in San Jose, Antique. This marks the third time Sun Life Grepa has organized a medical mission for ASHI members, with the first one dedicated to mothers in Dasmarinas, Cavite, and the second time in Mauban, Quezon.
During the activity, participants were able to receive essential medical services including free blood pressure checks, health consultations, tooth extraction, among others. In addition, they were also able to learn from wellness talks conducted by speakers from Sun Life Grepa.
The medical mission was conducted in partnership with the A.Y. Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, which provided the medical and dental supplies used by the volunteer doctors and dentists.
“This medical mission reinforces our commitment to support the underserved sector as part of enabling healthier lives and brighter futures,” said Sun Life Grepa Vice President for Group Marketing Operations Peter Miranda. “I salute the volunteers and the people for the compassion and dedication of our volunteer nurses, doctors and dentists and look forward to conducting more missions as we continue to make a difference in more Filipino lives.”
Ahon sa Hirap, Inc. is a microfinance

and productive lives.
According to a business study by Capital One, forty-eight percent of small business owners claim to have experienced burnout in the past year. Most entrepreneurs struggle to devote time to their well-being. They work long hours and sit in front of a computer almost the entire day, making them more prone to fatigue and its health consequences.
Health is vital to entrepreneurs and the success of their business ventures. So, they must invest more time and effort into their physical and mental health. Dr. Jennifer “Ginny” Huliganga, Head of Group Medical Services for Sun Life Grepa, shares these health and fitness tips for busy entrepreneurs:
1. Plan healthy meals.
Meal planning is
often the last thing on business owners’ to-do list, but it should be a higher
priority. “It’s non-negotiable,” she said. “Your body needs the
proper fuel to keep moving and be productive.”
For
entrepreneurs with packed schedules, meal prepping may be a good option.
Prepare a few recipes during the weekend, then portion out the servings in
microwavable containers for the entire week, ready to be reheated.
2. Be creative with exercise.
Business owners
who struggle to find time for exercise must be creative with it. They can
multitask and do light exercises while still getting some work done. For
example, some entrepreneurs, and even employees, buy a standing desk and a
walking pad to get their steps in during their regular work hours.
3. Don’t forget your vision.
“Eye health
is something almost everyone takes for granted. But some entrepreneurs don’t
realize how much burden long workhours puts on their eyes,” Huliganga
said. Constant staring at phone or
laptop screens damages the eyes and leads to headaches because of the pressure
of the screen’s blue light on the eyes.
So, take short walks between screen time and not use a
brightly lit screen in a dull environment, he advised. The room’s lighting must
match the screen’s brightness to prevent straining the eyes.
4. Breathe in, breathe out.
Stress
management techniques such as yoga, meditation, and tai chi help
diminish tension and anxiety. They promote mental clarity, enabling one to
focus better and become more productive. These activities are also good for heart
health as they help lower blood pressure, regulate breathing, and relax tense
muscles.
5. No man is an island.
Entrepreneurs
cannot run a business by themselves; they need people who can help them turn
their venture into a success. It’s important to know which tasks to delegate
and to whom to ensure that no single aspect of the business is overlooked.
Outsourcing services may also prove useful for owners struggling to or cannot
afford to hire full-time staff.
Since
the employees carry out business-critical tasks, entrepreneurs must ensure that
their people are fit and healthy to perform well. Business owners must also
invest in the health and well-being of their employees. They can do so by
providing employee benefits like life insurance to their people.
This
is why Sun Life Grepa designed three health protection plans under its MSME
MyBiz program for small business owners looking to address their company’s and
employees’ needs:
·
Sun
Life Grepa Accident ProSafe is
a packaged group insurance specifically designed for SMEs that offers
comprehensive coverage against accidents.
·
Sun
Life Grepa Smart Care Plus
provides small business employees health and protection coverage against major
uncertainties like death, disability, accidents, and critical illness.
· Sun Life Grepa HIPSTER, or Health Insurance Plan for Small Enterprises, is an affordable insurance solution that provides life, accident, disability, and medical benefits for MSME employees.
“Employees are the lifeblood of every business, whether small or big. Investing in your employees’ health is equivalent to investing in your company’s success because it guarantees that your people can keep working on growing your business,” said Sun Life Grepa Vice President for Group Business Peter Miranda.

Increased heart rate may result to heavy breathing and lightheadedness. These symptoms may be due to stress and may aggravate the condition called hypertension. Hence, identifying hypertension for most undiagnosed patients may be similar to stress symptoms.
What many don’t know is that when the body is under stress, it can
produce hormones that elevate the heart rate that somehow contributes to
elevated blood pressure. Putting a lot of stress to major organs and blood
vessels leading to their damage.
People with hypertension must actively avoid
stress carriers for the sake of their well-being. Children or grandchildren
whose family has a history of hypertension or heart disease should steer clear
of stressors, too, as 50% of the condition is caused by genetics.
Dr. Erick Frago, Director for the Grepa
Medical Diagnostic Clinic, shares these tips to avoid stress:
Dr. Frago says cutting cigarette consumption is key to good heart
health. E-cigarettes and vape pens aren’t safe either, as showed by many
clinical studies that the risk develop from cigarettes are also noted from
e-cigarettes.
Dr. Frago recommends sticking to one to three cups of coffee a day,
preferably the naturally brewed and not the instant type. “Decaffeinated coffee
may be a good alternative but still in moderate amounts. Those who
normally drink four to six cups daily may cut down their consumption gradually
to avoid withdrawal symptoms.”
For those who struggle to sleep at night, Dr. Frago suggests not
eating a big meal or consuming caffeine at least two hours before bedtime.
“Avoid using gadgets an hour before bedtime, too, as the blue light emitted by
your mobile phone or laptop stimulates the brain to be kept awake,” said Dr.
Frago. “Keep a warm ambience by using warm lighting in bedrooms to stimulate
sleep. Avoid making your bedroom an office, if possible, separate the working
area from your resting area inside your household. As always suggested to leave
your personal problems at home when going to work, leave your work problems in
your office when you go home.”
“Take work breaks every now and
then,” says Dr. Frago. “Stretch, drink water, and avoid looking at a device
screen for at least 10 minutes. Additionally, set a time limit for the workday
to have ample time for rest. Always remember that the 24 hours in a day can be
divided into three 8-hour windows specifically designed for your need. The
first 8-hour window ought to be dedicated to work; the second window dedicated
to sleep to keep you recharged; and the last 8-hour window dedicated to quality
time spent on yourself, family, and friends. Remember that the last 8 hours are
priceless.”
Self-care also involves staying on top of one’s physical health.
Going to checkups regularly, monitoring blood pressure, and taking medication
are critical to avoiding hypertensive crises and other illnesses.
Getting insured is another form of self-care.
Health insurance coverage can help secure your finances in case of
medical-related issues, as the benefits can be used to support expenses for
healthcare products and services.
